BUDGAM, Apr 13: The Bar Association Magam, in District Budgam of Kashmir has demanded upgradition of Municipal Court Magam to an Additional District Court on priority basis.
The Bar Association in a plea to Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court has prayed for deputing of a Judicial Assessment Team to evaluate the feasibility and necessity of such upgradation. It further prayed for necessary administrative steps be initiated for creation of posts, allocation of infrastructure, and budgetary approval for the establishment of the Additional District Court at Magam.
“The Association said the Munsiff Court at Magam was established in the year 1962, making it one of the oldest subordinate courts functioning in District Budgam. For more than six decades, this court has catered to the judicial needs of a vast population spread across multiple adjoining tehsils and towns. The Munsiff Court Magam predates even the establishment of the District Court Budgam.
“It further said over the years, due to administrative and geographical divisions, several new courts such as Munsiff Courts at Beerwah, Tangmarg, Pattan, Chrar-e-Sharief, and Chadoora were carved out from the Munsiff Court Magam.
“Moreover Magam town lies at a geographically central point connecting various tehsils and towns such as Tangmarg, Pattan, Narbal, Beerwah, Kawarhama, and Kunzer. This central positioning naturally makes Magam a judicial hub for litigants, advocates, and other stakeholders belonging to these areas. Upgrading the court to the level of Additional District Court would not only ease the burden on District Court Budgam but also greatly benefit the litigant public.
The Association said the demand for the establishment of an Additional District Court at Magam has been long pending. Numerous delegations, public representatives, and members of the civil society have echoed the same sentiments time and again. The inordinate delay in upgrading the court, despite its eligibility and merit, has caused disappointment among the public and the legal community, it added.
