SRINAGAR, Sept 6: Jailed cleric and Hurriyat Conference leader Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, alias Sarjan Barkati, whose nomination was rejected by the election authorities in Zainpora Shopian, was today accepted both from Ganderbal and Beerwah constituencies.
In Shopian last week, the authorities rejected the nomination of Barkati, after his family filed papers to contest the elections from Kashmir’s Zainapora seat. Officials said he failed to produce “oath certificate” and other documents in the specified time.
In the meantime, nomination papers of 16 candidates were rejected from 16 seats of Central Kashmir. 204 candidates had filed nominations from Central Kashmir and now only 288 remain in the fray.
