Barley futures up on spot demand

NEW DELHI, May 3: Barley prices were up by Rs 16 to  Rs 1,475 per quintal in futures trade today after participants created fresh positions amid a firm trend at the physical markets on strong demand.
Marketmen said the rise in barley prices at futures trade to building up of positions by participants, triggered by a firm trend at the spot markets on the back of strong demand from beer makers.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley to be delivered in May improved by Rs 16 or 1.13 per cent to Rs 1,435 per quintal, with the business turnover in 7,890 open lots.
Similarly, the contracts for delivery in June went up by Rs 14 or 0.97 per cent to Rs 1,452 per quintal, open interest stood at 11,200 lots. (PTI)
