Basant Panchami celebrated with traditional fervour across Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 24: Basant Panchami, the last day of colours week was celebrated with traditional fervour by various educational institutions and other organizations across Jammu.
To mark Basant Panchami, 328th Tree Talk was hosted at Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu).The programme was organized by NSS unit of the college in collaboration Botany Department. The programme started with Saraswati Vandana. Principal of the college, Prof Kiran Bakshi shared inputs on cultural and religious tree traditions and emphasized use of plant based colours for house decoration, holi festivity and AYUSH products for treatment of ailments. OP Sharma, while highlighting inputs on Tree Talk campaign in J&K focused on trees and shrubs used in Chyavanprash. The college students also presented music and recited poetry in praise of spring beauty.
A function in connection with Basant Panchami was also organized at Luthra College of Education by NSS unit of the college. The function commenced with lightening of traditional lamp by principal of the college, Vijay Laxmi. A number of students spoke about the festival. The main attraction of the event was quiz competition which filled students with enthusiasm. The other presentations by the students were patriotic songs, poems and quotation of great personalities.
The staff and students of Chenab College of Education also celebrated Basant Panchami with great enthusiasm. A number of students delivered speeches highlighting the importance of the festival in Indian Culture. A colourful programme consisting of songs, skits and dances were also presented by the students. Principal, Kamaldeep Kour, while speaking on the occasion presented her views on the importance of this festival.
The festival was also celebrated at Dewan Badrinath Nath (10+2) Vidya Mandir in its school premises. Rajendra Kakkar, Manager, DBN Trust, was the chief guest. Students presented beautiful cultural programme on Basant Panchami. The poems on the festival were also recited by the students. Suresh Sharma, Director Academics; Indu Puri, Principal, Shubh Sharma, Headmaster, teachers and students also took part in celebrations.
A colourful function was also organized at Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School, R S Pura in connection with Basant Panchami. The staff as well as students performed pooja of Goddess Saraswati. The school was decorated with colourful rangolies made by the students. A group dance was also performed by the students. Kewal Krishan Sharma, managing director of the school highlighted the importance of the festival in Indian culture. The sweets were also distributed among the students.
Basant Panchami, a day marking the onset of spring and also dedicated to Maa Saraswati (the goddess of knowledge and learning) was celebrated in Popular Model High School with traditional fervour. Entire staff and students participated in Pooja to seek the blessings of the goddess of wisdom. The event commenced with lightening of lamps. The school choir put up an incredible display as they sang hymns and recited prayers apt for the occasion. The celebrations went a long way in enhancing the students’ awareness about the Indian culture by principal, Usha Sharma. Students dressed in colourful attires also presented a lively dance and skits.
Perfect Foundation Public School, Janipur also celebrated the day by performing pooja of Goddess Saraswati and organizing a colourful programme. The students presented beautiful dances, skits and also presented group songs. Sheetal Manhas, principal of the school was also present on the occasion.
The pre-primary wing of Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School today also celebrated Basant Panchami, the last day of colours week with great enthusiasm. Teachers and students attired in yellow outfits created a splendid ambience in the school premises. The school building was decorated with colourful balloons and buntings. Students presented Saraswati Vandana followed by some cultural and folk dances. Later, principal, Rameshwar Mengi, distributed gifts among the students.
Apple Kids International pre- school, Bantalab, Jammu celebrated “Yellow Day” with religious fervour. Clad in yellow dresses, students were made to recognize yellow colour through various games and play-way activities. The students were shown different things of yellow colour and the atmosphere was also constructed according to the concept of the day. A drawing competition of senior KG students on the topic “Yellow Fruit”’ was also conducted. Later, principal, Puja Sharma, distributed sweets among the students.
Meanwhile, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha, Parade (Jammu) also organized a function under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma to celebrate Basant Panchami. The ritual ceremony was performed by offering prayers and reciting bhajans of Goddess Saraswati. Parsad were distributed among all the participants.
To mark the festival of Basant Panchami festival, Nirvana Academy today organized a bhajan sandhya at Aarohi Kala Sangeet Vidhalaya (AKSV), Subash Nagar (Jammu). Brij Kumar, a noted musician of the State was the chief guest while Vikul Gupta from Arivaan Group was the guest of honour. The programme started with a group song presented by the students of AKSV followed by Saraswati Vandana. Rishaan and Kunwar presented bhajan “Pyaar nahi Sur se jisko” while Kuldeep Kumar, a noted singer of the State presented bhajan “Maan Tadpat Hari darshan ko aaj”. Others who performed on the occasion were Aditya, Divyam, Amrita Bhan and Rajat Kholi.
