SAMBA, July 21: In his endeavor to provide relief to people from traffic chaos, Inspector General of Traffic (IGP), Basant Rath today made a surprise visit of Vijaypur township.
He along with SHO Vijaypur visited Main Chowk and other areas of the market in the Town and at National Highway.
During the visit, he stopped the encroachments near Chowk and market and issued instructions to the concerned Police Station asking immediate removal of encroachment on the road. During his visit, he asked the police officers to set the stoppage points for passenger vehicles in the town so that passengers could board and deport the vehicles easily at the selected point. He took on spot action against many drivers who violated the rules and seized their vehicles. Two wheelers violating the traffic rules in Vijaypur were also warned of strict action by the IG.
Basant Rath asked drivers to respect the traffic rules and not to park the vehicles on road side but at proper parking place so that there is no traffic congestion and frequent jams are avoided.
He asked the two wheeler riders to use helmets for their own safety besides the four wheeler drivers were asked to wear belts and not to park their vehicles on road side or in front of shops.
The I G asked shopkeepers not keep goods in front of their shops as it has led to traffic hazards in Vijaypur and he has been receiving many complaints about the same from people who are worst sufferers of the traffic chaos in the town.
The I G Traffic asked the drivers of four wheelers and three wheelers to report to him if any body demands bribe from them so that action under law can be taken against such corrupt officials of Traffic Police or other departments.
Basant Rath also met the police personnel in the town who were performing their duties and encouraged them by offering special tiffs. The police officers looked helpless and were left with no option but to involve themselves in improving the traffic system. By the time Basant Rath was in Vijaypur, the traffic system was completely smooth.
The IG is receiving complaints on social media that in Vijaypur, vehicles are violating the rules, so they visited Vijaypur to see the traffic system in the city. Meanwhile, Basant Rath, along with SHO Vijaypur, traveled extensively from the main chowk to the city to traffic to the market.
