RAMNAGAR, Oct 27: Despite having been sanctioned in 2008 at a cost of nearly Rs 6 crore, the Basantgarh-Khaned road in Ramnagar constituency catering to a population of around 10,000 souls in villages Mang, Punara, Loudra, Khaned Rai, Chak and Kadwa was being delayed for the vested political interests.
In a press statement here today, NPP leader and former MLA Harsh Dev Singh said that having been tendered in 2009-10 for construction, the work on the road was delayed due to legal hurdles posed by some vested interests and political persons who got the construction work stayed from the court. He said that after the court’s decision for early construction of the said road, an appeal was again filed before the larger bench. He said that even after the final decision of the Division Bench of the High Court last year, the work was not started creating huge resentment in the affected areas.
Harsh Dev regretted that some political persons were creating hindrance in the construction of the road by threatening the executing agencies and putting pressures on officers of the PMGSY Deptt by using their political influence to delay the construction work. He said that even the contractor who had been awarded the contract of the road around six months back had transported his men and machinery to the construction site but was being threatened of dire consequences in case he started the work.
Strongly condemning the deprivation of the poor people of the remotest villages of Basantgarh of their legitimate rights of communication links, Singh cautioned that any neglect of the backward and far flung areas on communal considerations would be strongly resisted. He said that people of tehsil Basantgarh were known for their secular credentials and mutual brotherhood and any attempt to divide them on communal lines would invite staff resistance from the Panthers Party.
Harsh Dev further expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of Ramnagar-Dudu road for which Rs 135 crore had been sanctioned under “PMs Task Force” in 2011-12. He called for early up-gradation of the said road so as to provide better connectivity to the far flung villages in conformity with the spirit of the said scheme.
