After long wait extending over many years, the day dawned when the Minister of Defence inaugurated North India’s first cable stayed bridge at Basohli that will connect the State with the neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It will become a new gateway to Jammu and Kashmir for the people of neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and open flood gates for tourism and business activities. Apart from this, the bridge is also important from strategic point of view.
The Basohli Bridge has the biggest advantage of opening the hitherto vast hinterland of Basohli-Bani to modern life and its facilities. Its opening will begin the task of connectivity of Bhaderwah to the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and thereby increasing the prospect of trade and commerce between the two regions. Hopefully, after the inauguration of the Basohli Bridge, attention of the Government will be mounted to the construction of road to Bhaderwah for vehicular traffic. With that, the prospects of increased tourism in the region become brighter.
