Basohli to be developed as heritage town: Lal Singh

JAMMU, May 2: Minister for Health and Medical Education Department, ARI and Trainings Ch Lal Singh today informed that Government is on a comprehensive plan to develop Basohli as Heritage Town, adding that the town is founded by Raja Bhupat Pal in 1635 and known for old traditions and cultural values.
The Minister was addressing a gathering on a second day of Heritage-cum-Health Mela at Basohli, here today.
Ch Lal Singh informed that on the second day of the Health Mela about 1000 children of Government and private educational institutions besides people in large numbers have been provided free health check and medicines. He said instructions have been issued to the Health and Medical Education Department to arrange free health check camps at far-off areas of the Basholi town.
The Minister asked the Director Health Services to arrange blood donation camp at the venue of the Heritage and Health Mela on May 3. He said the Government has purchased full fledged blood donation van with modern facilities. He appealed the youth of Basholi town to come forward and donate blood to save precious lives.
Ch Lal Singh said that decreasing sex ratio of female child is alarming and a slur on the present day society and this menace if not checked will have a devastating impact on the sex ratio.
The Minister said that recent census report showing substantial decrease in State’s Male-Female sex ratio is an eye opener and time has come to strictly implement the PNDT Act. He asked the people to extend their cooperation in this regard.
For strengthening the Haemophillic Centres in Jammu and Kashmir, Ch Lal Singh informed that Government has released Rs. one crore each for purchase of drugs and factors. He informed that the Mission Director NHM GoI has also been approached for release of additional funds to the tune of Rs. 5 crore for improving the Haemophillic Centres in the State. He said Mission Director GoI has assured to release funds both for Jammu and Srinagar Haemophillic Centres during current financial year.
The Minister informed that Central Government has provided digital Radiography machine worth Rs. 2 crore, adding that the equipment will be dedicated to the people within one month. He informed that five transport ventilators and six high ventilators have been installed in the GMC for providing healthcare facilities to the people. He said instructions have been issued to SMGS hospital to make Paedriatic Ward fully air conditioned within week time, adding that Orthopaedic ward of GMC would also be equipped with similar air facility.
Later, Ch Lal Singh also inspected the ongoing construction work of doctor’s quarters at Basohli town.
