PULWAMA, Jan 15: The flood hit cricket bat manufacturing business units in Pulwama district are facing a tough time to survive due to shortage of capital in face of dip in exports and delay by authorities to compensate them for damages.
Owners of various cricket bat manufacturing industrial units in Charsoo, Reshipora and Dogripora alleged that they are being denied the much needed compensation by district authorities.
“We submitted loss of equipment and materials to District Industrial Centre Pulwama three months ago but till date no compensation has been paid to us despite approaching them time and again,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, owner of Asian Crescent Bat industry Charsoo adding, “most of the stocked raw material was either washed away by floods or their quality was badly hit. Bad quality of raw materials has decreased demand of finished bats.”
Imtiyaz told that the bat manufacturing units are in immediate need of buying new raw materials to prevent closure of their units. The industrial owners told that they were being denied compensation by the Government.
“We are not able to pay electricity bills and have to face cuts due to non-payment of bills. We applied for loan from banks to give life to our damaged business units but that too is proving very troublesome as the bank officials avoid us for one or the other reason,” Imtiyaz added.
