JAMMU, Oct 2: Batwal Welfare Association conferred Ambedkar Award to Kripa Ram for his services and gave away Gold Medals to meritorious students of the community during a well attended ceremony, here today.
The Association also honoured Lt Col (Retd) Manohar Lal Kaith for his eminent service rendered for the good of others and IDAS Officer G R Kaith, Capt Puran Chand Kaith and Sub Hans Raj Kaith who retired recently from Indian Defence Service.
The students, awarded with Gold Medals, included Rani Devi, Usha Kiran, Ruby Sandhu, Renu Bala, Vijay Lakshmi, Poonam Sandhu, Ajay Kumar Sargotra, Surinder Kumar Kaith, Sunil Kumar Mandi, Vijay Kumar Kaith and Shashi Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, the BWA general secretary R L Kaith said that the Association feels proud in honouring Ambedkar mission revivalist, meritorious students and Lt Col Kaith.
Other members of the Association also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various issues of the community. They alleged that the Batwals were being ignored by the Government at all levels since the community has no representation in Rajya Sabha, Legislative Council, District Development Board or any other forum.
The speaker also claimed that the reservation benefits are taken by those SCs who are politically well established at the cost of Batwal community. This is the reason that well educated boys and girls of the Batwal community are still hankering for jobs as they do not have any political support behind them.
Earlier, the Association members also paid tributes to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 144th birth anniversary.
Prominent among those who attended the function, included Gunni Ram, Ram Dass, Des Raj, Madan Raj, P P Motan, Bawa Ram, Chaman Lal, Ravi Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Ramesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar.
