JAMMU, May 6: Bajrang Dal (BD) has expressed serious concern over the grabbing of forest land as well as the land of local people in Bajalta area by land mafia.
At a press conference, here today BD co-convener Rakesh Sharma and its activists from Bajalta, Narayan Sharma, Jagdish Singh, Ajay Sharma and Ashok Sharma said that there is a brewing public resentment in Bajlta area over the grabbing of forest land as well as the land of local people by some mafia groups to change the demography of the area and threaten the local people residing their for centuries together.
They alleged that the ancestral land of the local inhabitants of the area has been grabbed by changing the revenue records and when the people go for cultivation of their land, they are being harassed and attacked by the mafia groups who are non locals.
The BD leaders also alleged that these mafia groups have indulged in bovine smuggling by stealing the cattle and buffalos of the local people to transport them to Kashmir Valley. The irony is that when the locals approach police for registering the FIR, it shows its reluctance in doing the same as it is hand in glove with the mafia groups.
The BD leaders said that in case the immediate action in not taken against the land mafia and their activities are not stopped the demography of the entire belt will be changed within years.
Rakesh Sharma said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is showing a grave concern for Kashmiri students studying in UP by writing letters to UP CM seeking protection to them has failed to protect the forest land as well as cultivable land of local people in his State which has been grabbed by mafia groups hell bent in changing the demography of the area.
