JAMMU, Aug 14: While strongly condemning the grenade attack on Budha Amarnath pilgrims at Poonch yesterday VHP and Bajrang Dal accused the State administration of its total failure in providing security to the pilgrims.
“We had made an appeal to the State administration before the commencement of the yatra that fool proof security be provided to the Budha Amarnath pilgrims but the administration has not taken the issue seriously”, Bajrang Dal national convener Rajesh Pandey and State president VHP Leela Karan Sharma told reporters here today.
They said that before the commencement of yatra we had pleaded before the administration that the pilgrims be given fool proof security this time in view of the mass violence in Valley which was aimed at disrupting the Amarnath yatra.
The BD held nation wide protest today against the attack on pilgrims and failure of administration to provide security to pilgrims, said Mr Pandey, adding in Jammu protests were held at Kacchi Chawni Chowk, Bari Brahmana, Satwari, R S Pura and Kathua where the Pak flags were torched by protesters.
He also demanded immediate arrest of militants responsible for grenade attack on yatris and stern action be taken against them.
The BD leader said that such attacks on pilgrims can’t be tolerated and allowed in future. He warned that in case Government fails to curb terrorism in the State BD will be forced to come to streets and it will not allow some handful people to disrupt the yatras by taking direct action against them.
He also demanded that injured yatris be given specialized treatment and adequate compensation.
VHP leader Rajesh Gupta, Naveen Sudan and Suresh Chander were also present in the press conference.
