SRINAGAR, Oct 18: The two-day Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Indo-German Energy Programme Partnership Summit commenced here today, focusing on energy efficiency and power transition for State designated agencies.
A statement said that the first day featured key addresses during three sessions.
Abhay Bakre, Director General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), emphasized the importance of energy for sustainable economic development and noted that energy efficiency is essential for the country’s sustainable growth.
“It helps bridge the gap between energy supply and demand, mitigating environmental impacts, and fostering inclusive development,” he said, adding that the policies and activities undertaken by Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the aegis of Ministry of Power have created a nationwide impact in changing the mindset of the people towards efficient use of energy.
Baseer Ul-Haq Choudhary, MD of KPDCL, highlighted the Government’s proactive approach to addressing climate change and increasing power demand in Kashmir.
He said the Government has been investing in infrastructure and adopting innovative approaches to ensure a robust and sustainable power system while protecting the environment.
“From 1000 MW to 1400 MW, the authorities are prepared to meet the rising energy needs by investing in the infrastructure and adopting innovative approaches,” he said.
Milind Deore, Secretary of BEE, emphasized the workshop’s role in reviewing the progress of State designated agencies (SDAs) in implementing BEE schemes, such as street lighting, water pumping, and training programs, to promote energy conservation. He called for a broader effort toward achieving energy transitions.
Sanjay Sharma, Chief Electrical Inspector & OSD of the Power Development Department in Jammu & Kashmir, discussed the region’s progress toward self-sufficiency in power generation. He highlighted the shift to smart meters to enhance power distribution management.
Anil Dhaka, MD of RRECL, and Raman Kesar, Secretary of JKPDD, were also present at the event.
The second day of the workshop will feature two major sessions, further advancing discussions on energy efficiency and sustainable power systems. This summit aims to foster cooperation and innovation in the energy sector, ultimately contributing to India’s sustainable development and environmental conservation.
