Beg accuses NC of conceding to diminished status of J&K

SRINAGAR, July 28: In a veiled attack on National Conference for conceding to diminished status of J&K, PDP’s Organizational General Secretary and former Parliamentarian, Dr Mehboob Beg has claimed that his party is the only potent and viable political outfit in the Union Territory.
While addressing a gathering in connection with the party’s foundation day in Srinagar, Dr Beg targeted those regional outfits that were visibly excited at the sight of the upcoming Assembly elections.
He asked if such ‘over-zealous’ regional forces had given a thought to the diminished status of the J&K Assembly and the Government that would eventually be formed.
“We have come down from Wazir-e-Azam, to Wazir-e-Aala to (now) Wazir-e-Adna,” said Dr Beg, in a sarcastic reference to the dwindling powers of the J&K Chief Minister’s post.
He further questioned, “have the parties that are visibly excited at the prospect of an election even bothered to give this a thought or will they just be happy with the chair?”
In a reference to Aga Ruhullah, who won the Parliamentary election from Srinagar constituency, the former Minister pointed-out that the other regional forces would do well to realize that the candidates who did not toe the official ‘safe and guarded’ party line, but chose to voice the opinion of the common man was successful while Baramulla made sure that the proxies and those wavering in taking a stand stood wiped out.
Dr Beg emphasized on PDP being the only political force that has stood steadfast and continued to voice the feelings and the emotions of the people of J&K. He also cited the recent development where the Director General of Police made a statement targeting political outfits and pointed-out how Mehbooba Mufti was the only leader who took the DGP head-on while the rest wavered in their response.
Dr Beg claimed that Mehbooba Mufti’s strong reactions forced the J&K Police to come-out with a clarification.
