JAMMU, Sept 4: Senior leader and former Parliamentarian, Dr.Mehboob Beg has reacted to the Opposition’s jibe at PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti’s invitation to the separatist leadership to participate and engage with the All Party Delegation on visit to Kashmir.
“I have said it before and I am constrained to say it again, the constant endeavor on part of the principal opposition party to score political points and attack the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti smacks of utter disregard and disrespect to the prevailing situation in Kashmir. It can either be total lack of understanding on what the Valley is going through or utter disregard towards the prevailing agonizing circumstances, both of which only add to the pain that Kashmir is going through”, remarked Dr.Beg.
He also said that Dr. Farooq Abdullah was the only Kashmiri leader who had a historical opportunity to get Kashmiris what they desired. “This is no time to talk or point-out historical facts, however, the constant reactions coming-in from the principal Opposition party forced me to point-out one essential fact. It was none other than Dr.Farooq Abdullah, who in 1996 enjoyed a resounding mandate with representation from the Valley, from Jammu region as well as Ladakh and could have sought certain concrete measures from the Government of India before rushing to take oath. However, he did not deem such a step necessary and it is now a lost opportunity, one that could have gone a long way”, said Dr.Beg.
The PDP leader also said that Mufti Sayeed was in a far weaker position in 2014 with only 28 MLAs and yet charted-out an Agenda of Alliance with the BJP on terms that would benefit the people of J&K in general and the people of the Valley in particular.
