Beijing opposes adding Chinese companies to US sanctions list – Foreign Ministry

BEIJING, Jan 13 : Beijing opposes adding Chinese companies to a US sanction list targeting Russian energy sector, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

On January 10, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions against Chinese companies involved in the construction and transportation of modules for Russia’s NOVATEK Arctic LNG-2 project, as well as against oil terminal operator Shandong United Energy Pipeline Transportation over supporting Russia’s state-owned shipping company Sovcomflot in oil transportation.

“China has consistently opposed illegal unilateral sanctions and extraterritorial jurisdiction that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council,” Guo told a briefing.

China has always spoken against against foreign interference and restrictions on normal trade and economic exchanges, as well as “the US generalization of the national security concept,” the diplomat said.(UNI)
