SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Residents of Bemina area of city here today staged a protest against the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State and demanded its immediate roll back.
Witnesses said the residents came out of their houses and blocked Main Road for vehicular traffic to register their protest. The protesters were raising slogans against the government and termed the NFSA implementation as gross injustice.
The protesters blocked the Main Road for all vehicles and didn’t allow anyone to pass through which resulted in massive traffic jam on Qamarwari-Batamaloo, Tengpora Byepass-Qamarwari and Bemina crossing-Qamarwari routes. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded for hours on these routes and commuters faced lot of inconvenience, the witnesses said.
Warning of stir, the protesters asked the Governor NN Vohra-led administration to roll-back the NFSA from the State and provide ration on old scale. The protesters later dispersed off peacefully.
