JAMMU, Feb 24: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with Minister for R&B and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani laid foundation stone of Datyal Bridge on river Chenab at Pargwal, here today.
The multi-crore steel bridge with a total length of 1344 meters would be one of the key projects of the region. The link on Chenab would connect Datyal to Sarwal and reduce the road distance from 80 Kms to just 4 kms thus joining two border belt areas of Khour and Pargwal with each other.
Speaking to a gathering who had assembled to express gratitude for the prestigious project, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Government is committed to upgrade infrastructure all across the state, as socio economic development of any area is directly linked with better infrastructure.
He said focused attention is being paid to the rural, backward and border belts of the state so that these far off places are equipped with all required facilities on the pattern available in urban areas.
“The Coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah with active support from the Union Government has launched mega projects and the Datyal bridge is one among those initiatives,” he added.
He said the Central Government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has benevolently supported the State Government in its new ventures of Medical Colleges, new ITI, Cancer Institute’s, IIM, IIMC, Central Universities, new administrative units and many more pro-people initiatives.
Tara Chand said work on the roadmap to development is apace and all out efforts are on to provide basic facilities to the people living in every nook and corner of the state.
He said Pargwal and Khour area have seen unprecedented development over the last few years and prestigious projects of Model villages, Degree College, Grid Station, better education infrastructure and Hospital have come up.
Underscoring on improving the infrastructure in rural and far-off areas, Works Minister said with the start of work on the bridge long pending demand of the people of the area has been met and assured that all needed support would be provided for further improving infrastructure in the belt.
While responding to the demand of road along the bund, directions were given to prepare DPR for the same and submit for approval.
Wani also directed the PMGSY and PWD authorities to jointly work and ensure that all the projects of the area that follow under the norms of connectivity in phase 10 are taken up.
