I literally get shocked to come across so many tuitions centers and the tutors commercializing education, ensnaring innocent students, cashing on their helplessness and attracting them to their hide-outs and extending substandard coaching to them for hefty amounts. My heart sinks in despair to have a look at this upcoming generation being misdirected and ill-educated and being used as merely a spring-board to go higher in their personal pursuits at the hands of those who know even less their modern tiny tots fully equipped with the latest information. The satanic art of using this students community as a money minting gadget, the growing seduction of the teachers for money and then this large scale commercialization of the entire educational process at the moment especially in India has rendered a great setback to the total well being of this nation apart from propelling the young generation into an abyss of life-staking frustration and disappointment.
The very attitude of ours has deprived this country of the transforming visionaries and missionaries despite the very presence of branded schools and colleges across the country. The matter is extremely serious and needs to be pondered over very seriously and responsibly otherwise our encounter with an ideological and intellectual disaster is not much distant from us. The heart-rending tragedy with the students is that they don’t get satisfactory academic potion in schools and Colleges for the very simple reason that these days some of the teachers, lecturers and even professors come through the back-doors either on the strength of monetary power or by exercising political influence.
The consequence of all this stuff and non-sense is the educational centers infested with the incompetent brains and knowledge-bankrupts snowballing into a mire of disappointment for our students-the only ray of hope for all of us and the only strong shoulders to support their nation. In the present day society there is no much difference between the level of a student and that of a teacher so far as the quantity of knowledge and information is concerned. The students in search of quality and worth get into the bloody claws of these incompetent and duffer teaching stuff who is all bent upon entrapping them and looting them at their best on the pretext of private tuition and all that. At these tuition centers, these little angels are exploited and are made to spend maximum time at the so-called coaching loci in exchange for the maximum money sans all that they wish to have.
At the end of the day these immaculate youngsters don’t have anything with them excepting packets and tucks of downloaded, copied and second-rate study material which any of them can easily have from internet also. The student, having disgorged all money and wasted all precious time, comes to the point of realization that he fell a prey to the satanic tricks by some petty businessmen garbed as tutors but by then they have come to the point of no return.
I have written much against tuition centers and have often been blamed by some of my friends (who run tuition centers) for creating trammels on their way whereas the fact is that I have never been against the quality oriented tuition centers or private schools. I have always been in favour of the competent teachers, having adequate grip over the subjects or streams concerned, conducting private tuition if it is inevitably required; rather I wish all such intelligent teaching lot of the society to come forward to train the young brains for favour or money whatsoever. My stance has always been against those who have contracted a habit of selling sub-standard and unproductive ‘orientation’ and guidelines for huge sums of money.
In Rajouri-Poonch area this pestilence of cheap tuition has bitten into the very infrastructure of educational system. Apart from a few standard tuition corners where some trained and well educated teachers do give substance to knowledge loving youth, majority of the same deserve only be deplored. The students are discovered to be on the move all the day-long holding note books, knocking at the doors of eagle-eyed tutors who could not qualify even to become ReTs or fourth class employees but are now running tuition corners because the tuition happens to be the most lucrative business at present where without investing much one can earn a huge profit by making the best of the students helplessness.
Some days back, I met the runner of a tuition center who teach English Grammar and train the young learners at the Drafting Skills in English but the point to be surprised is that this gentleman is a fourth class employee somewhere and does not have sufficient qualification to teach English even to the students of 7th standard. There are so many other coaching centers operational across Rajouri-Poonch region and even in Jammu also where the teachers, who are otherwise quite unable to do anything meaningful at all and contribute nothing significant to the welfare of the students, have been engaged in these tuition sale centers. The matter to be shocked about is that those who themselves stand defeated by life at all fronts have undertaken the responsibility of putting the young generation on the royal road to success.
This is no less than the worst tragedy that has ever happened to our society. Govt. must fix up the qualification to run such coaching centers. Only qualified people should be permitted to operate the coaching programmes and it must be binding on all the operators of the coaching institutes to engage the well qualified staff for the purpose. The Electricians, unadjusted Engineers and Doctors, so called tempo drivers, the illiterate rich people and the non-academicians should not be allowed to exploit the students in the name of coaching, counseling and guidance. The nuts and bolts of all the Govt. teachers in schools and colleges should be tightened and their career advancement must be subjected to their tangible performance in the concerned domains so that the good can be delivered and no space should be permitted to these mountebanks for the exploitation of the students at these educational shops. To the best of my notion, all Govt. teachers should flex up their muscles to fight against this menace and the students must get awake to the frauds done to them in the name of tuition. The fake and fraud teachers are an anathema to the society and deserve to be discouraged before they render any more harm to the future of the nation. A standing and stringent legislation must, at any cost be brought and carried into effect as early as possible so that only the qualified teachers and competent brains can come forward to orient the new and flowering generation in schools and colleges or in the coaching centers. After all there lies the question of the future of this nation.
