JAMMU, July 1: Members of Bahu Fort Development Committee (BFDC) here today staged a protest demonstration under the leadership of BFDC president Rajeev Charak and vice chairman, Ishant Gupta.
The protesters raised slogans against the Archaeology and Museums Department of J&K and District Administration Jammu.
Addressing the protesters Charak claimed unauthorized construction within the protected Bawe Wali Mata Temple at Bahu Fort.
He said that they informed the Archaeology Department two months back about the development but the department only passed responsibility to DC Jammu without taking any concrete action.
Charak further claimed that seven years back also they have informed the Archaeology Department that illegal constructions were at its peak in the temple premises but no action was taken and construction of Langar shed, multiple temples etc was done there.
He said that J&K Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 1920 is openly violated in the historic temple.
The BFDC urged the District Administration to take immediate action and stop the illegal construction, investigate the matter and hold the guilty accountable under law to protect this historic place.
Prominent among those present in the protest were Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Hardesh Khokhar, Capt Moti Lal, Mukhtiyar Singh, Neel Kanth, Kasturi Lal Sagotra, Dr. Davinder Singh, Vinod Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Girdhari Lal, Nitesh Thapa, Deepak Kumar, Tanish Mehra, Bal Krishan and others.
