SRINAGAR, June 23: Concerned about the non-implementation of Centrally sponsored schemes in Pir Panjal Region including Shopian, Baramulla, Rajouri, Poonch, Kulgam and Budgam districts, Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha (BGM) held a workers convention at Town Hall Shopian to discuss the problems faced by people living in Pir Panjal region.
It was announced in the meeting that the Sabha would submit a charter of some demands including tribal region status for Pir Panjal residents ahead of Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to the State on June 25.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Mahasabha, Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal said that the area has been neglected by the Government from last many years.
He said, “Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State continue to lead a miserable life facing extreme neglect from the State Government.”
“The condition of people in the area is so worst that even scores of families are without ration cards and even many are without election cards,” Poswal said.
He also said none of the Centrally sponsored schemes like PMGSY, NRHM, NREWP, and MGNERGA has been implemented seriously in the area.
