RAJOURI, Oct 8: A one-day awareness/sensitization programme on “Intellectual Property Rights” was organized by Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, in association with Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri. The venue of workshop was Centre for Biodiversity Studies, BGSB University.
The programme started with a welcome address by Prof. G.H Dar, Dean School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, BGSB University. He extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries and participants who had come from MSME-DI Jammu and various teaching departments of BGSBU.
In his address, Prof. Dar emphasized the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and highlighted the need to spread their awareness and promotion. Professor A.K Kaul, Dean Academic Affairs, BGSBU, delivered the inaugural lecture, wherein he dwelt in detail on kinds of IPRs and poor status of patents in the Indian scientific community. Virinder Sharma, Director MSME- DI, Jammu, elaborated on the aims and objectives of the programme and also introduced the speakers.
Prof. Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, Dean Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, presented an overview of IPR, types of IPRs, legislative frame work in India, and introduction to the patent law. He stressed the need to patent the innovations of local people concerning their traditional knowledge. This was followed by the lecture of Rahul Taneja, Scientist, Patent Information Centre, Haryana State Council for Technology, Panchkula, Haryana. He enlightened the audience about pre- and post-grant opposition, infringement, doctrine of equivalence, drafting, licensing and commercialization of patents.
