RAJOURI, July 23: Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University Haryana, delivered an online lecture on ‘Skilling India: Bridging the gap between Industry and Academia’ to BGSBU students and faculty.
Raj Nehru said that educational institutions should focus to become a centre of excellence and produce job-ready resources, rather creating earnable resources. He said that the biggest challenge today is to upgrade the kind of knowledge, skills and attitude among the young men and women that is required as a growth factor for economic development. He said that the industry expects educational institutions to produce talent to manage the challenges the business is facing today. He mentioned that quality of infrastructure, research and faculty of educational institutions is critical to produce world-class talent. He said that the fundamental duty of the institutions is to inculcate and enhance the capacity to learn, think, relate and act among the students to make them fit for the industry demands.
Mr Nehru said that educational institutions need to revisit their curriculum by consulting the industry to address the changing demands. He stressed on the need for up-skilling the faculty to develop the right kind of pedagogies to match the industry expectations and making learning more inclusive.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor BGSB University Prof Musarrat said that as Industry 4.0 introduces more advanced technologies capable of impacting almost every aspect of a business’ operations, skilled human resources who understand how to utilize and implement these technologies is crucial. However, given the rapid rate of changes in the business environment, the availability of skilled manpower is not keeping pace, he mentioned.
Prof Musarrat said that the focus of educational institutions should be talent development by continuing to gain clarity in what skills will be needed and committing to supporting the development of these skills—through working with industry and policymakers to update the education system.
Prof Iqbal Parwez , Dean Academic Affairs, BGSBU delivered the welcome address while Prof Naseem Ahmed, Dean School of Management, presented a brief overview on the importance of industry academia collaboration.
The lecture was organized by School of Management Studies, BGSBU, under Eminent speakers’ E lecture Series.
