BGSBU students, faculty hold rally; demand affiliation of Medical College

JAMMU, May 29: In support of affiliating Pir Panjal Medical College with Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), faculty members along with students of University held peaceful march to press their demand.
Under the leadership of Dean of Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Prof Mohammad Asghar, faculty members of Engineering College along with students took part in the rally.
In the rally, students raised slogans in support of Medical College in BGSBU and demanded immediate intervention of Chief Minister. The participants requested Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and affiliate the GMCR with BGSBU.
Prof Mohammad Asghar said that Vice Chancellor of BGSBU Prof Irshad Ahmed Hamal is very keen to get the Medical College affiliated with BGSBU and whole University fraternity is supporting the cause.
Prof Asghar said that District Hospital Rajouri already suffers from shortage of space and BGSBU has more than 7500 Kanals of land, and major chunk of which is available for development which can be used to cater to the growing need of land for infrastructure development of the Pir Panjal Medical College.
He added that scalability of affiliating colleges and institutions would become an intriguing challenge for University of Jammu to manage. He said that there are more than 150 colleges and institutes affiliated with Jammu University and in addition University of Jammu has to manage 5 offsite campuses offering various Postgraduate courses. He suggested that Rajouri College should be affiliated to BGSBU University if State is serious to run it efficiently.
