BGSBU teachers call off indefinite strike as VC concedes demands

RAJOURI, May 12: Protesting teachers of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) today called off their indefinite strike after the Vice-Chancellor conceded their demands.
Under the banner of BGSB University Teachers Association (BUTA), these teachers were on strike for the last two days in protest against alleged bunglings in the university by the persons at the helm of affairs, transfer of Joint Secretary Suneet Gupta, inquiry into alleged irregularities in TEQIP, etc.

“After a meeting with BUTA representatives today, Vice-Chancellor Prof Akbar Masood conceded our main demands, particularly transfer of Joint Registrar Suneet Gupta and audit of his service record, fixed tenure of the statutory positions, properly handing over all the record by Ex-Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Iqbal Parwez as Incharge TEQIP-III, following which we decided to call off the strike,” said Nikhil Gupta, Vice-President of the University Teachers Association.
BGSBU Spokesperson, Dr Danish Iqbal Raina confirmed that the university today issued orders for transfer of Suneet Gupta to Camp Office Jammu and relieved him of additional assignment of OSD (Nursing College) besides rotation of statutory positions for two years and verification audit of employees and also asking Prof Iqbal Parwez to properly handover all the record pertaining to TEQIP-III.
Earlier, in the morning, the protesting teachers held a strong demonstration amid raising of slogans in support of their demands and against the university administration.
Pertinent to mention that before going on indefinite strike, these teachers had presented a charter of demands including termination of contractual engagement of Prof Iqbal Parwez, transfer pending inquiry of Jt Registrar Suneet Gupta, and inquiry into financial bungling in TEQIP-III.
