KATHUA, May 5: Bhai Gurjit Singh Yadgar Sanman Sanstha, Kathua wing conferred Life Time Achievement Award to Principal (Retd) Hajura Singh, a renowned Punjabi Poet, Writer, Thinker and Intellectual from Kathua here today. Ajit Singh Mastana, eminent Punjabi poet and writer presided over, Sardar Charanjit Singh Bhola, President, District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Kathua was the Chief guest and Satpal Mansotra, General Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Private Schools Association was the guest of honour.
Er Nirmaljit Singh, Chairman Kartar School, Barnoti, Gurpreet Kaur, educationist and wife of Bhai Gurjit Singh and Navjot Singh, former member DGPC, Kathua Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, former Additional Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present in the presidium.
While delivering his presidential address, Ajit Singh Mastana complimented Bhai Gurjit Singh Yadgar Sanman Sabha, Kathua Kendra for initiating such a commendable function of honouring Prof Hajura Singh, former Principal and legend of the community who contributed a lot for the promotion and development of Punjabi language, literature and culture and also served the nation through education as a teacher during his job in Jammu, Kathua and adjoining areas of Punjab and Himachal.
Charanjit Singh Bhola, President, DGPC, Kathua, during his address also congratulated the family of Joginder Singh, father of Bhai Gurjit Singh for organising such an impressive function which will inspire others to come forward and follow the same path to remember our elders and loved ones who lost this world.
He further said that Prof Hajura Singh is the suitable choice for being conferred with the Life Time Achievement Award. He also threw light on the life and contribution of Bhai Gurjit Singh, who left abode in 2021 at the early age of 47.
Dr Gurnam Singh, educationist, National Awardee and General Secretary, Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, Kathua presented an elaborated research paper on the life and contribution of Prof Hajura Singh who had more than 35 books in Punjabi in his credit and much more manuscripts are in wait needed to be published.
Prof Hajura was honoured with Rs 5100 cash, memento and citation as a token of love by the dignitaries and family of Bhai Gurjit Singh.
