KATHUA, Mar 20: The inhabitants of Bhagtali island in Ravi area today protested in front of DC Office here against the illegal mining in the area which has caused the threat to the surrounding areas.
The protestors also blocked the road for half an hour at Kathua and warned to intensify agitation in case the immediate steps were not taken to stop the illegal mining from Ravi bed.
They alleged 100 feet deep ditches have been dug in the area by the miners and the water level in the entire area has gone down wile people are facing both dust and air pollution which can be cause of deadly diseases.
The protestors also met the Additional DC Kathua and sought immediate action on the part of Government to stop illegal mining . The protestors raised slogans against the Mining and Industry Department.
