JAMMU, Nov 3: The festival of love and understanding between brother and sister, Bhai Dooj was celebrated here today with proper rituals.
On this day sisters apply a paste made in little pure ghee using vermilion mixed with flowers and rice popularly known as ‘Tikka’, over the forehead of their brothers and pray for their healthy-long lives and progress and the brothers in return give them symbolic gifts assuring to stand-by them in the hour of need.

Social media platforms were thronged with posts of Bhai Dooj where many people shared their photos with their sisters, while celebrating the festival.
The inmates of orphanages and old age homes in Jammu also celebrated the festival and the girl inmates at orphanages applied Tikka over the foreheads of the boys staying at orphanage for boys.
Similarly, ladies at the old age home applied the Tikka over the foreheads of men staying there and prayed for their well being and long life.
Sweet shops had prepared attractive items and the girls thronged to buy delicious sweets for their brothers.
Garment shops, jeweller outlets and others were offering discounts to lure the people to buy beautiful and attractive things as gifts for their sisters.
The festival of Bhai Dooj comes a day after Diwali.
Many political leaders, Ministers and other similar persons have extended Bhai Dooj greetings to the public.
