It was on April 18, 2013 when the then Governor and Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board NN Vohra had laid the foundation stone for Bhairon Ghati Passenger Ropeway Project to facilitate the pilgrims to comfort them in undertaking taxing and onerous journey from Bhawan to the Bhairon Ghati. This project was to be completed within two years involving a cost of nearly Rs.55 crore.
On completion, this ropeway would carry 900 pilgrims per hour and 45 persons in one go besides contributing towards saving much of the time of the pilgrims and save a distance of 1.5 kilometer distance between Bhawan and Bhairon Ghati in just four minutes. However, it is now the fag end of the year 2018 and hence five years since the project was started but even now the wait, the hope and the expectations only have all heaped up as the project is nowhere having reached the stage of being fully commissioned even though a test run was done successfully by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in May this year.
Since the Holy Navratras are approaching and the rush of pilgrims is expected to pick up, it is hoped that the project would be completed in all aspects and the Company engaged for the task gives green signal, of course, only after keeping on top priority the security and safety aspects of this ropeway.
