Bhalla asks local leaders to reach needy people

JAMMU, May 17: J&K Congress Vice President, Raman Bhalla today termed the COVID-19 situation in J&K as worrisome and claimed that the Government has run out of options and has failed to tackle the pandemic.
The Congress leader demanded massive testing and tracing of contacts of COVID-19 cases and their isolation to check the spread of the infection.
During his visit to poor and vulnerable families of Gandhi Nagar constituency, Bhalla asked the local leadership to make every possible effort to reach every needy people in Gandhi Nagar constituency by maintaining all SOPs and Health Ministry guidelines.
“The Government should have strengthened the public health system on a war-footing basis during the lockdown period last year but unfortunately its priorities remained somewhere else,” Bhalla maintained adding that the Government must rely on health experts to formulate policies with regard to testing, contact tracing and isolation of people affected by the virus.
The Congress leader said the COVID-19 pandemic is at a ‘dangerous stage’ and until an effective mechanism is developed it will be a long and hard battle.
He expressed concern over the loss of lives across the country due to a lack of oxygen supply and shortage of vaccines, which were allegedly exported to other countries, and said it was a “highly irresponsible” act of the BJP Government.
