JAMMU, Sept 3: Accusing BJP and PDP of using divisive cards during elections, former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today said that Congress was the only political force in the state which always promoted harmony among people of different regions and religions besides people of different faiths in order to strengthen the bonds of unity integrity of the state and the nation.
Addressing party workers of Gandhi Nagar constituency today, Bhalla said that the politics of hatred and divisiveness was the most dangerous in this sensitive state than any other part of the country. He regretted that BJP and PDP played divisive cards for petty political gains during elections, thus ignoring the broader interest of the nation. Bhalla said Congress always ensured balanced and equitable development of three regions to foster harmony between people of regions and different faiths. He urged the people of Jammu and Congress workers to expose the power hungry politics and hatred spread by the communal and divisive forces and teach them a lesson in the next Local Bodies elections.
Referring to the empowerment of women, he said that the Congress party was the first to give first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the first woman president and the first woman Lok Sabha Speaker, besides giving 33 percent reservation in the Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats to the women.
“The Congress is committed to give 33 percent reservation to the women in the Legislatures,” he said while urging the women to come forward in the political system to ensure the upliftment of women folk in the country.
Bhalla said that BJP Government failed to deliver even on a single promise during the past more than four years in power. He described ‘Modi government’ as anti-farmer and anti-poor, while pleasing the corporate class in the country. He lambasted the BJP and the PDP for playing with the sentiments of people and ignoring the genuine aspirations of Jammu region on various issues. He said that the BJP ministers and legislators were mute spectators to the anti- Jammu policies and asked the people to teach BJP a lesson in the next Local Bodies elections.
