JAMMU, Dec 23: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today distributed land deficiency compensation cheques worth Rs. 1.02 crore among 77 displaced families (refugees) of 1947 of Jammu, R. S. Pura, Bishnah, Poonch, Kathua, Samba and Rajouri at a public grievances camp held at Gandhi Nagar.
Custodian, Jammu Abdul Majid Wani, besides other senior officers of Evacuee Property and Revenue were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said Central and State Governments are fully aware of hardships faced by the refugees and were keen to resolve all their issues in one go. He said that for this purpose, a group of Ministers met Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson and Home Minister and had meeting with them besides submitted a memorandum of Rs. 1775 crore for one time settlement of their genuine issues.
The Minister said Central Government has already released Rs. 49 crore package for distribution of land deficiency compensation among the refugees, adding that the relief amounting to Rs. 1.50 lakh to each family has been distributed by arranging public grievances camps in different headquarters across the State. He said about Rs 30 crore out of Rs 49 crore have been disbursed among the affected families till date.
Bhalla called upon the left out families to approach the Revenue Officers and fulfill required formalities so that the compensation could also be disbursed among them after proper verification. He said Government was committed to provide all basic amenities to refugees at par with urban pockets so that they live with dignity and honour.
The Minister informed that most of Colonies of refugees are being regularized under 254-C Revenue Act, adding that these areas would be developed on modern lines by providing all basic amenities .
Earlier, at Trikuta Nagar Extension and Rampura Ward No. 23, Bhalla launched various development works like 700 meter path along with Ranbir canal at Trikuta Nagar Extn. and upgradation of five lanes and drains at Rampura at a cost of Rs. 13 lakh. He asked the executing agencies to complete the projects within stipulated time frame.
Later, Bhalla with Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon visited Kargil Colony in Narwal Bala and inspected the ongoing construction work of Kargil House, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.64 crore.
MLA Zanskar Feroz Ahmed Khan, Ex-Minister Haji Nissar Ali besides officers of PHE, R&B, PDD and UEED accompanied the Ministers.
Interacting with the people, Bhalla said that Government was committed to provide all basic facilities to the people of Kargil at Jammu to make their living comfortable. He said Government has earmarked Rs. 66 lakh for upgradation, blacktopping besides construction of both sides deep drain from Rajiv Nagar to Kargil Colony in Narwal Bala.
Speaking on the occasion, Akhoon said the Kargil House would be constructed on modern lines in double storey within time frame so that they can arrange their social as well as religious functions on paying nominal charges. He said Coalition Government was committed for equitable and balanced development of every sections of the society for which there is no constraint of funds.
