JAMMU, April 7: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla on Tuesday distributed ration and other necessary items among the needy and poor families of Gandhi Nagar Constituency at Quasim Nagar and Sheikh Nagar.
Diwan Chand, District Congress General Secretary; Aman Bawa, Iqbal Singh, Bunty Pardan, Pintu Kumar, Sumitra, Anju and others also accompanied Bhalla.
Speaking on the occasion Bhalla said that it is unfortunate that some people continue to defy the lockdown by unnecessarily commuting on roads thereby defeating the social distancing concept.
He demanded adequate arrangements for providing essential commodities and medicines at the doorsteps of the needy people.
Bhalla said though some NGOs and religious bodies are extending helping hand to the government at this time of crisis but the daily wagers and people living the below poverty line are worst-hit by the lockdown.
“Government has announced financial help for the registered labourers and workers but nothing has been announced for the casual, unregistered and unorganised labourers,” he maintained.
Bhalla also demanded proper personnel protection gears and safety equipment like N95 masks, PVC coated gowns and goggles for doctors and other frontline workers combating the Coronavirus at present.
