JAMMU, Apr 22:  Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla inaugurated International Gym- the  Unisex Club  branch at Sainik Colony, Sector D here today.
Padma Shri, Arjuna Awardee,  Prem Chand Digra was the guest of honour. Owner of the Gym Rajesh Dutta, president IBBF LL Dogra IRS Commissioner Excise & Custom, Ex-corporator Jai Singh, Hamid Choudhary,  Sandeep, Navneet Singh, BS Tirth  former Director SAI, Gulshan Sethi and  Amar Singh Sudan were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases. Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits.  He said regular physical exercise is important for younger generations too, especially with the rise of obesity in children.
Bhalla said physical activity along with proper nutrition, is beneficial to people of all ages and abilities.  He further said that a healthy diet alone is however,  inadequate to ensure a healthy body as physical activities help to keep one in shape and free of sickness and disease. Many parents, due to time constraint, usually find the easy way out by cooking two-minute noodles or heading towards the nearest fast food for quick meals. They do not realize that these junk foods set the stage for an unhealthy lifestyle for their children.
He suggested that schools should implement physical education on a daily basis rather than twice weekly. Only a minority of students are actively involved in sports. Most students are sedentary and prefer to concentrate on their studies rather than indulge in physical activities as they think it is a waste of time.
By enforcing regular exercises daily, these students would be exposed to the importance and benefits of exercises. Parents must lead an exemplary life which can benefit their children by increasing awareness on the health benefits of exercising regularly, he added.
