SRINAGAR, June 12: Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla today inspected work on the upcoming restaurant at Afarvat—the last point of the Gulmarg Gandola, being constructed by the Housing Board for the Cable Car Corporation.
Accompanied by the Managing Director and Deputy General Manager of the J&K Housing Board, Mr Bhalla was appraised regarding the sensitivity of the project, which was started in September 2010 with an estimated cost of Rs 258.78 lakh.
The Minister was also apprised that the project is being executed at a height of nearly 13500 ft where vagaries of weather play a dominant influence on the outcome of any construction activity. Even in best possible weather conditions work can be carried out for not more than 4 hours daily and in inclement weather conditions work is restricted to a couple of hours.
It was disclosed on the occasion that despite numerous difficulties on account of inclement weather conditions the Housing Board has completed stage one.
The Minister was also apprised of the progress of the work for face lifting of  G-1 station and construction of staff quarters. Mr Bhalla directed the Housing Board authorities to complete all the works by the end of current working season.
