JAMMU, Apr 25: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla, today launched Rs 35 lakh civic works in Trikuta Nagar and laid foundation stone of a toilet complex at main market in Gandhi Nagar.
The Sulabh complex involving Rs. 19.93 lakh is set to be completed within four months by executing agency Lakshya Social Service Organisation under the supervision of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
At Trikuta Nagar Extension-4, Mr. Bhalla laid foundation stone for up-gradation of walkway along Ranbir canal and up-gradation work on 500 meter lane, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 25 lakh. He asked the JMC to complete the projects within stipulated time frame.
At Sanjay Nagar, the Minister kick started up-gradation work of lanes and drains, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 9 lakh.
Earlier, Mr. Bhalla chaired a meeting of high level officers of Horticulture, JMC, JDA, PDD, R&B, ERA, UEED, besides representatives of fruit and vegetables market Association Narwal.
Commissioner/Secretary Agriculture Production A H Samoon, Vice-Chairman JDA, Satish Nehru, Director Horticulture Anil Sharma and Superintendent Engineer, P L Bhushan were also present in the meeting.
The President of the Fruit Association, Narwal projected problems being faced by the traders and demanded adequate drinking water facilities, construction of toilet complex and new auction sheds, street lights, regular sanitation, Canteen facility, up-gradation of green belt park, lease rights of vegetable complex, Gen-set facilities, uninterrupted power supply, marking of parking space, up-gradation of link roads, transfer of shop sites and better sewerage and drainage system.
The Minister gave patient hearing to the demands and said that Government has earmarked Rs. 24.69 lakh for laying power lines in the mandi area adding that the work is under progress. He further informed that Rs. 4 crore has been earmarked for construction of damaged auction sheds and up-gradation of link road.
