Bhalla, other Cong leaders visit migrant fire victims, demand their rehabilitation

JAMMU, Oct 31: Congress working president and former Minister, Raman Bhalla along with party chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma and Party Migrant Cell Chairman, Hira Lal Pandita today demanded adequate compensation for the migrant fire victims of Purkhoo camp whose quarters were totally damaged in devastating fire on October 29.
Bhalla and other Congress leaders who visited Purkhoo camp today to take the stock of the problems of the migrant fire victims took up the issue with Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo on phone and urged him to rehabilitate all the families on war footing basis besides sanction an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh per family as they have suffered total loss in the devastating fire.
Bhalla stressed on immediate rehabilitation of these families besides providing all relief to them including free ration. He said it is unfortunate that Government in last ten years failed to rehabilitate these hapless migrants in quarters and they were leading a miserable life in these ORTs which had no basic facilities of life.
He said the BJP Government at Centre and LG administration in UT has failed to take any initiative for rehabilitation of the migrant families putting up in rented accommodations for last so many years. These families are facing a distressed life as they are unable to manage the rent out of meagre cash doles given to them by Government.
Bhalla, Sharma and Pandita while interacting with the victim families said that it was the Congress Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh at centre and Congress Government in the erstwhile State that two room sets were constructed at Purkhoo, Muthi, Buta Nagar and Nagrota. Besides a township for housing of over 4000 families was constructed at Jagti with all facilities while the BJP Government failed to do anything concrete to solve the problems of these hapless people except exploiting them for vote bank all over country.
Bhalla said the Congress is solidly with the victim families as well as the entire Kashmiri migrants and it will forcefully demand their dignified and honourable return and rehabilitation. He said if Government is making claims of restoration of normalcy in Kashmir it should take steps for the rehabilitation of displaced people in Valley and settle them there in accordance with their geo -political aspirations.
Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Dr Arvind Karvani who also was present on the occasion has been asked by the Congress leaders to take all measures in rehabilitating the migrant fire victims.
