Bhalla seeks central assistance for revival of apple juice plant

New Delhi, Sept 11: Minister for Horticulture Culture & Housing Raman Bhalla today called on Chairman APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), Rasheed Masood here today.
The Minister apprised the Chairman that with the availability of land in sufficient measures and willingness of State Government to revive the Doabgah juice plant at Sopore, it has become necessary to revive the project at a tentative cost of Rs. 13.85 crore by replacing the obsolete machinery and adding of tetra pack and bottling/canning plant for apple juice packing as the highest production of apple produce of J&K to the tune of 21 lakh mts per year needs a standard and machinery of latest technology. He said the plant has a capacity of processing   80-100 Mts of apples, culls, pre-falls or any other unmarketable soft fruit per day.
He informed the chairman that the plant after purchase for Rs.2.00 crore by the State Government could not hit optimum capacity, however after its revival the input processing capacity will be enhanced to 15,000 Mts.
The Minister also discussed the draft project reports for financing of other projects like Mango processing plant Jammu, Walnut processing and Export centre, Cold store at Fruit Mandi Sopore, Integrated pack house and CA store at Behrampura Baramulla, Corrugated cardboard carton plant at Walnut export centre at Qazigund, Cold store and apple grading and packing line at Rambirpura, Anantnag and at other places. Besides the DPR for Chowdriqund Shopian project which was approved by APEDA on 100% basis requires financing due to cost escalation.
