KULGAM, July 2: Minister for Horticulture, Housing and Youth Services and Sports, Raman Bhalla today took whirlwind tour of various areas of South Kashmir to take stock of damage caused to the horticulture crop due to recent hailstorm and scab disease.
The Minister was accompanied by the MLA, Kulgam, M Y Tarigami while visiting various orchards of Kulgam and Shopian districts.
While interacting with people and farmers, the Minister expressed his sympathy with the effected farmers and said Government has farmer friendly approach and will provide every possible support to the farmers to compensate the losses, besides will provide guidance and assistance to them to save crops from diseases so that people associated are benefitted.
He also said that appropriate measures have been initiated by the Government for giving support and guidance to the farmers to produce better horticultural crops, besides has directed the concerned district administrations to send a team of officers to assess the loss of damage caused due to recent hailstorm and scab disease.
Bhalla also directed the district administration to organize the awareness camps regarding the quality pesticides and precautionary measures to be taken for better crop with improved quality and quantity.
Mr. Bhalla also said that the department has been directed to hold awareness camps in these areas to disseminate the remedial measures to be taken by the farmers to save the crop from scab. He also said that team of experts from Central Govt is also visiting the Valley to provide guidelines for better and disease free crop.
He also appealed the concerned people to adhere the guidelines laid down by the department regarding use of pesticides and spray schedule.
