JAMMU, Apr 25: Former Minister and senior PCC leader Raman Bhalla today urged the State Government to ensure essential supplies to the general public.
Addressing deputations of aggrieved people from Channi Himmat, Gadigarh and Mahakali Nagar areas of Gandhi Nagar constituency today, Mr Bhalla alleged that PDP-BJP Coalition Govt has miserably failed to ensure supply of ration and drinking water to the people. Even the power supply to the rural, semi urban and urban areas has been affected.
The PCC leader said that the employees of different categories including teachers, daily wagers, casual and need based workers and other such categories are regularly seen on protests for their just and genuine demands. Mr Bhalla questioned the BJP for its failure to address the aspirations of people of Jammu region, as the party always accused the State and Central Governments of not giving the due treatment to Jammu. Now, when they (BJP) are in power, they should fulfill the slogans, they used to raise, while in opposition.
He pointed out that resentment is brewing among the public as unscheduled electricity cuts and drinking water scarcity has made life miserable while the sweltering heat and humid conditions have added to the woes of people. The department has even failed to ensure regular power supply in metered areas, which are paying regular rent. This has affected the drinking water distribution as special power lines connecting pumping stations have got affected.
Bhalla said that thousands of casual labours, need base workers, Anganwadi workers/ helpers and other temporary employees have been suffering since long but the Government has failed to take any concrete decision about their fate. They have been staging protests and dharnas since long but their issues remained unresolved. He said 7th Pay Commission is due from January 2016 and the Central Government has merged 50% DA into basic pay of their employees from January 2015. But J&K State has yet to remove the pay anomalies and frame a policy for the regularization of over 60,000 temporary/ casual workers.
The Congress leader lashed out at the Government for its failure to address the demands of the daily wagers, need based, CP workers, ITI trained and other such categories in PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control Department and urged the Government to frame their regularization policy.
