NEW DELHI, June 25; Ashok Bhan chairman Kashmir (Policy & Strategy ) Group and a distinguished fellow United Services Institute -(USI) has urged the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to talk about the reversal of KP exile and prioritise their Gharwapsi (return and rehabilitation )at least in his third term and truthfully to live up to his commitments besides accomplish the Constitutional and moral duty in this behalf.
In a statement issued, today Bhan said KPs are longing to return home. Thirty five years of exile is harsh, traumatic and painful fraught with extinction of this unique and viable community. This community being aborigines with 5000 years of roots engraved in soil of Valley. It is the moral, Constitutional and political duty – of Narendra Modi and his Government to plan a structured Garwapsi of the KPs. There is a national socio-political consensus on this issue and the Kashmiri societal welcome awaits them. The Kashmir without physical presence of Kashmiri Pandits is incomplete is the Valley’s overwhelming sentiment.
“Don’t fail Kashmir and KPs in your coalition term Prime Minister”. There is already a public perception “Modi 1:0 and Modi 2:0 failed on this humanitarian issue ” Bhan said.
In the historical and social context of the Kashmir valley, the scars of past conflicts weigh heavily upon its people. The fallout from the 1947 turmoil and the prolonged insurgency has resulted in the displacement of indigenous religious minorities and the senseless loss of innocent lives at the hands of non-state actors and militant groups.
The people are victims of the 1947 conflict and the lingering aftermath of the armed insurgency that led to the displacement of the entire indigenous religious minority and the killing of innocent civilians by non-state actors, brutalised anti-people groups and other actors.
Recognizing the urgency of addressing this plight, the Kashmir Policy and Strategy Group has tirelessly advocated for dialogue and societal healing, emphasizing the imperative of fostering peace, justice, and inclusivity in the region.
Bhan expressed the hope that now that Statehood is being restored to Jammu & Kashmir and elections to the State Assembly are round the corner in November 2024, it is expected the festering issue of Gharwapsi of the native population of about seven lakh living in exile across the country and abroad -Narendra Modi in collation 3:0 shall announce the Government’s decision of a planned and structured -module in this regard for exiled KPs .
