SHOPIAN: On the directions passed by the concerned District Development Commissioner, the Shopian district administration today conducted a drive against bhang cultivation in the district.
According to the district administration, bhang cultivation spread over 250 kanals of land at Mela-hura (Vanduna) and Zainapora villages was destroyed during the drive.
It was said that Tehsildar Zainapora has initiated legal action against the cultivators of bhang.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian said that such activities are detrimental to the entire society, particularly to the young generation, and stressed on creating greater awareness so that the drug menace is eradicated.
The DDC also said that all efforts are being made to make district free from the menace, adding that stern necessary action as per the law will be initiated against the offenders.
