Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha delegation calls on Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI, Apr 3:
A delegation led by Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha president Eshfaq-Ur Rehman Poswal called on BJP president Raj Nath Singh at New Delhi and apprised him of several problems of Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State.
Poswal informed Raj Nath Singh that funds under Tribal Sub Plan were brazenly misappropriated in the State due to which ST communities continue to be economically and socially backward.
He urged the BJP president to take up the cause of ST communities and work for redressal of the same. He also demanded that ST communities throughout the country are enjoying political reservations whereas the same is not given to Gujjar and Bakerwal of Jammu and Kashmir.
Poswal rued that even after 60 years of independence, the community was still backward in education, jobs, health, and other sectors. He said that majority of the ST communities reside along borders and are nationalist but even then they are subjected to Government apathy and neglect.
He demanded that Panchayat representatives should be given adequate security. He also demanded that besides implementation of 73rd amendment of the Indian constitution in the State Panchayati Raj, Block Development Council elections should be held at the earliest in the State.
Raj Nath Singh after hearing to delegation members assured that the BJP would vigorously raise issues highlighted by them. He said that the party will pressurize the Government to work for solving the issues of STs of J&K. He also extended full support to Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha J&K.
