JAMMU, Jan 5: ‘The Need – Exodus & Exile’ – a 23-minute short by sons of the soil, Rakesh Roshan Bhat and Rohit Bhat brought laurels to the J&K UT by bagging multiple awards in film festivals across India.
The film is being applauded for its simple story with a beautiful message in the end. “Through this small, simple and honest attempt, we managed to take the story of Kashmiri Pandits to organizers and audiences in film festivals across India”, said Rakesh Roshan Bhat, the writer and director of the film.
The short has secured 6 official selections in prestigious film festivals in India and one official selection in a festival in US. It went on to win 5 awards across these festivals and was also a semi finalist in one festival
It scored big in 4th International Short Film Festival, Pune by bagging four awards for Best Film -2nd, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress.
The film also won Best story award in Kalaburagi International Film Festival, Karnataka and was a semi finalist in KIFFI Jaipur. It was also an official selection in New Delhi Film Festival and Vindhiya International Film Festival, Madhya Pradesh. Earlier the film was an official Selection in First-Time Filmmaker Sessions in USA.
It was released online on first January and has been garnering lot of accolades from general masses as well for the sensitive portrayal of the plight of Kashmiri Pandits and the need for their survival.
Rohit Bhat, the co director of the film said they are planning to produce more meaningful short films in future.
Brothers Rohit and Rakesh have successfully managed to organize the first ever international film festival in Jammu. They are also known for their quality work in Theater.
This short film has been produced by Meenakshi Rakesh Bhat under Roots in Fateh Kadal Entertainment. The music has been done by Saurabh Zadoo while Heeramani Singh is the Cinematographer and Neeraj Badiyal the Editor.
The cast includes Kusum Tickoo, Sapna Soni, Jatinder Jotshi, Vinay Pandita and Kusheen Bhat. Make up has been done by Manoj Dhamir, costumes by Bharti Koul and art design by Virji Sumbly.
