Sir,
This has reference to the editorial,’Bhawan-Bhairon Ropeway Project’ (DE, Dec 27, 2018). It is really heartening to read that the prestigious and much awaited Bhawan- Bhairon Ropeway project completed at a huge cost of 85 crores and reported to have been constructed at par with European standards having all the requisite safety norms, has been operationslised. This prestigious project having the capacity of 800 persons per hour and fitted with all pilgrim centric facilities, will prove to be of great help to the pilgrims, especially the elderly and sick pilgrims who find it dfficult to climb up/down the steep ascent/descent to the shrine to pay obeisance to the Goddess, which, in fact, is the life long wish of every pilgrim. It is believed that Obeisance to Goddess Vaishno Devi ji is not complete and doesnot bring the desired wishes unless a pilgrim has the Darshan of Bhairon Nath, the Demon whom the Goddess killed. But it is not possible for all pilgrims to undertake the arduous trek from Bhawan to Bhairon Ghati.
Thus, this project has come as a boon to such pilgrims as they will be able to have a panaromic view of the mountains having tall coniferous and other trees as well as rich biodiversity including the flora and fauna. It will also help in easing the rush during peak days and making the pilgrimage a memorable experience. The fact that the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has decided to charge only nominal Rs 100 to and fro per passanger for a ride will attract more pilgrims to enjoy the ride.To sum up, it is a welcome step of the Sri Mata Vaishno Devi ji Shrine Board and the Board deserves all praise and appreciation for it.There is need to operationalise such ropeways enroute Amarnath yatra and Machail Yatra too to enable the elderly and infirm pilgrims to perform the pilgrimage easily and comfortably.
