JAMMU, Nov 13: Expressing reservations over a statement made by a PDP leader that ‘No Hindu can become Chief Minister of J&K’, Prof Bhim Singh, chief patron of National Panthers Party (NPP) today said that the statement by PDP leader is gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct so the Election Commission should take urgent and immediate action against the leader.
In this connection he submitted a letter this afternoon to VS Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner of India, at New Delhi. In the letter Bhim Singh alleged that Code of Conduct has become a casualty in J&K by the State Government as well as some political parties.
He said that this morning a statement made by a PDP leader was published widely which said, “No Hindu (religion) can become Chief Minister of J&K.” Apparently, the statement was made by PDP leader to help, promote and further communalize election campaign of BJP, he added.
Prof Bhim Singh said that the Constitution of J&K and the Peoples Representation Act of J&K has a clear mandate that many persons qualified to be a legislator in the State is competent to hold any ministerial job and is qualified to be a Chief Minister of the State irrespective of his religion, region, caste or otherwise. In the light of this the said statement is gross violation of Code of Conduct and creates further communal polarization in J&K with an intention to create favour for the PDP in the Valley and for BJP in Jammu Pradesh, he alleged and urged the Election Commission to take immediate action against the PDP leader and disqualify PDP as recognized political party in the State.”
