Bhim Singh assures support to students for minority status to AMU

JAMMU, Feb 21: Chief Patron of NPP Prof Bhim Singh assured the students to support the demand of the minority status to AMU which was established in 1920 by Sir Sayeed Ahmad Khan with the cooperation of civil society in Aligarh.
The minority status was put under hammer in 1970 by the Central Government for political reasons.
While addressing the students and staff at a function organized by the old boys’ alumni today in the University Campus, Prof Bhim Singh offered free and unconditional support to this cause before the Supreme Court which is hearing the matter on April 4 this year.
He described the AMU as a symbol of secular India and termed the varsity as the cradle of harmony, secularism and National unity. He said that during his world tour from 1967-1973, he understood the glory and beauty of AMU that gives a grace and secular image to the entire country.
Prof Bhim Singh said that secularism is ever lasting glory of India and India shines mainly because of its secular character. He offered full cooperation and solidarity to the students of AMU with a hope and trust that India shall lead the world in peace, harmony and global understanding so that India shall repeat its performance all over the world as a messenger of peace, harmony and human dignity.
