Bhupinder reviews preparations for starting CORT in GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 27: Administrative Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, Bhupinder Kumar today chaired a meeting to review preparations for starting Cadaveric Organ Retrieval Transplantation (CORT) in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
The meeting was organized by J&K State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) in presence of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu.
Dr Elias Sharma, Professor & Head, Urology Department cum Nodal Officer SOTTO gave a detailed description of functioning of SOTTO in J&K vis a vis Organ Transplant Act THOTA, 1994 implementation in J&K. He stressed the need for starting Cadaveric Organ Donation in J&K. It is pertinent to mention that Corneal Donation is already happening in Jammu.
The Administrative Secretary assured all possible support from the Government in this regard and he stressed the need to augment general awareness about organ donation. He also appealed to public to come forward for the cause. Anyone can become an organ donor online by Adhaar linked mobile clicking the link https://notto.abdm.gov.in/.
Bhupinder appreciated efforts of SOTTO for spreading the message. He congratulated the Kidney team headed by Dr Elias Sharma and Cornea team headed by Dr Ashok Sharma for doing excellent service to humanity.
The meeting was attended by Director Coordination, New Medical Colleges, Dr Yash Pal Sharma, Heads of various departments, faculty members, Administrator Ashwini Khajuria, Joint Director J&K SOTTO Dr Sanjeev Puri and Medical Superintendent of GMC Hospital, Dr Narender Bhutyal.
