Srinagar, May 30: Militants today hurled a grenade at the house of National Conference leader, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district while militants attacked an Army patrol in Handwara forest area in Kupwara district tonight.
Militants hurled a grenade at the residence of Bhat in Tral township this afternoon. There was no loss of life or damage to the property. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
In another incident, militants this afternoon lobbed a grenade at a joint Naka of Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) near Circular Road in Banora area of Pulwama district. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded in an orchard. However, no one was injured in the blast.
A massive operation has been launched in Qaziabad forest area of Handwara in Kupwara district tonight after militants fired at an Army patrol party.
Sources said that militants fired at the troops but there was no casuality. The troops also fired and reinforments have been rushed to the area and a large portion of forest area has been cordoned off. However, no searches are being conducted. The searches will be conducted in the morning.
And police today recovered an unexploded shell at Lalpora area of Lolab in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Panic gripped at Aram Mohalla in Lalpora after the residents spotted the explosive device on the bank of a Nallah in the area.
The locals immediately informed the concerned Police Station about it who immediately rushed the spot along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).The bomb was later destroyed without causing any damage.
In the meantime, Police arrested three youth over stone-pelting charges in Budgam district of Central Kashmir today.
The youth from Alamdar Colony at Char-e-Sharief were arrested, after they allegedly tried to disrupt foundation ceremony of a local receiving station.
Local MLA Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Power Minister Sunil Sharma inaugurated the receiving station.
