Bid to set ablaze shrine

SRINAGAR, July 19: The South Kashmir township of Tral today observed shut down against alleged bid to set ablaze Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah shrine.
IG Kashmir, S M Sohai told Excelsior that the chowkidar of the shrine raised alarm during night as he saw few youth trying to enter the shrine. As he raised alarm residents came out and the youth ran away.There was no damage to the shrine.
In the morning residents gathered outside the shrine and protested against the incident and the town observed shut down. Shops remained closed and the traffic was off the roads.
Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah shrine in Tral was gutted in a mysterious fire in 1997. Even though over 15 years have elapsed since then, the reconstruction is still incomplete.
The incident comes in the wake of recent gutting of shrine of Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani at Khanyar, Srinagar and another shrine in Ratsun Budgam.
